Eucalyptus campaspe is an evergreen tree with narrow, silver-gray leaves. The foliage is fragrant, and very aromatic when crushed. The bark of the silver gimlet is smooth, and ranges in color from copper to cinnamon. E. campaspe is a narrowly shaped tree.

The Eucalyptus campaspe was described by botanist Spencer Le Marchant Moore in 1899. He was working with the academic organization called The Botanical Results of a Journey into the Interior of Western Australia. This species is distributed on stony hillsides and flats in the Goldfields-Esperance region between Kalgoorlie and Norseman of Australia (2).
Cultivation Notes:
Eucalyptus campaspe is a tough and undemanding tree with a 20 to 40 year lifespan. Full sun is best for the growth of the silver gimlet. Very hardy tree able to withstand temperatures to 18°F. E. campaspe is a low water use tree, best when watered once a month, or once every other month. This plant grows best on sandy-loam-clay soils (2).

In a landscape, Eucalyptus campaspe functions as a canopy tree, or as a shade tree. This tree is also a good wildlife forage and habitat. E. campaspe is a small scale tree which suits natural looking landscapes more than residential plantings.
