Natural History:
Queensland ebony is endemic and widespread to Northwest Australia in Queensland and only extends slightly into neighboring states (1,2,3).
Cultivation Notes:
The weeping nature of the Queensland ebony makes the tree a beautiful ornamental choice with showy flowers. Queensland ebony can be found in woodlands, riverbanks, and floodplains (1, 2). The tree can grow in a variety of soil types from sandy or rocky soil to silty soils rich in clay (1). Queensland ebony thrives in full sun and is drought tolerant (2,3). Queensland ebony is not currently cultivated in the United States but would make an excellent choice for shade in a dry climate.
Ethnobotany:
_Australian aborigines used the Queensland ebony for the nectar produced from its flowers. The nectar of the flowers was either squeezed out or the flowers were steeped in water to be drank later (2).
