Salvia x jamensis is an herbaceous, perennial herb, evergreen in frost-free regions, with a moderate to rapid growth rate. The flowers are similar to Salvia greggii in shape, colored red, red and white, or white, depending on temperature during flower bud formation, with high temperatures resulting in all white. They bloom sporadically fall through spring, with the heaviest bloom in winter. The fruit are one to four tiny seeds at the base of each dried calyx (cup-like structure that holds the flower petals and ovary). The leaves are green, small, almost triangular, with toothed edges.
