Natural History: Named after Gotthilf Heinrich Ernst Mulenberg, a famous botanist (1). Pink Muhly is an ornamental grass with pink plumes.
Cultivation Notes: It
is best to plant Pink Muhly in the autumn. If it is planted in the spring, water until it is
established (2). Pink Muhly can work in poor soil conditions and can be used as
a ground cover (3). For this reason it is often found on roadsides, golf
courses and meadows (3). It is fairly tolerant to low water and even drought
but will flower more when more water is available (3).
Ethnobotany: Traditionally the Pink Muhly grass has been gathered and used for weaving baskets and other crafts in the southern states of the U.S (2).
