Characteristics: The leaves of the Tombstone are odd-pinnate, three to five leaflets that are two inches long. The edges of the leaves are serrated. The fresh grown branches are thin, light-green, and are flexible. During spring a deep to light yellow flowers will grow in rosette shapes.

Natural History: This rose bush is originates in western and central parts of  China and has been distributed to Gansu, Guizhou, Henan, Hubei, Jiangsu, Sichuan, and Yunnan (3). The R. banksiae was planted in Tombstone, AZ  in 1885. Now that same plant is recorded by the Guinness World Records to cover 9,000 square feet (2).
Cultivation Notes: This species grows vigorously, sending out long slender branches which arch and sprawl, to make a large, deep green, informal mound on the ground or a rooftop trellis cover.  This plant requires key pruning and for it will grow quickly in multiple directions. When considering to water this plant, under-watering is more devastating than over-water. 
Ethnobotany: The landscape value of this plant is for raised planter beds and a ground covered slope. Lady banks is ideal for being around animals and children when considering urban landscaping because it is not toxic.
